Frequently asked questions
Answers about installation, teams and driving with PaceGuru.
Installation
Why is Windows showing a blue warning screen (“Windows protected your PC”)?
This is caused by the Windows SmartScreen filter. By default, Windows warns you about any new software that hasn't been downloaded by thousands of users yet, or isn't digitally signed with a very expensive corporate certificate. Since PaceGuru is still relatively new, it hasn't built up this reputation with Microsoft yet. This is purely a precaution by Windows, not a virus detection.
Is it safe to install PaceGuru?
PaceGuru reads your iRacing telemetry only through the interface iRacing provides for add-on software (iRacing SDK) to draw the overlays on your screen. It does not make any deep system changes. We cannot give a guarantee for every system environment. If you want to be sure, you can upload the installation file to a free online virus scanner such as VirusTotal and check it before running it.
How can I install PaceGuru despite the warning?
It takes two steps:
- Click the small text “More info” in the blue warning window.
- A new button appears at the bottom right. Click “Run anyway”.
The setup then starts as usual and you can jump right in.
Teams and shared laps
How do I share a lap with my team?
In the app under “Team”: join a team with an invite code, or create one of your own with the Team plan, then under “Share lap” pick an iRacing recording, click a stint or a single lap, and upload it. Your teammates find it under “Load reference lap”. You can also manage teams here on the website.
What gets uploaded when I share?
Only the selected excerpt of the driving data: position, speed, pedals, steering, gear, line and times, plus track, car, and the weather and track conditions during the drive. No setup, no iRacing name, no iRacing ID and nothing about other drivers. Your display name is one you choose yourself and is only visible to the members of your teams; without it you appear anonymous. Details are on the Security and data page and in the privacy policy.
Can I use teams during the trial?
No. Teams and shared laps are part of the subscription. As soon as you subscribe they are unlocked immediately — even while the seven trial days are still running.
What does a team of my own cost?
Joining a team and sharing laps is included in every subscription at no extra cost. To open and run a team of your own you need the Team plan: on the launch offer until 30 April 2027 for €4.99 a month or €49.99 as an annual pass, after that €9.99 or €99.99. That is the total price, not an add-on to the Standard price. One team per account, with no limit on members — and members only need Standard. With a running subscription you change to Team in your account.
What happens to my team when the Team plan ends?
Nothing for three days. After that the team is read-only: your members can still load the shared laps, but nobody can share new ones, invite or join. 30 days later it is deleted; you get two emails before that. If you get the Team plan again, or hand the team over in the app to a member who has it, it is fully usable again at once. Teams that already existed before the plan was introduced stay free.
While driving
Do I need a reference lap for anything to show up at all?
No — grip usage and G-forces work instantly. All comparison readouts need one, and your own telemetry recording from iRacing is enough for that.
Where do opponent laps come from?
PaceGuru records them in the background while you're in the same session. Only the data iRacing already exposes for other cars is stored — track position and time. So time delta and sector delta, no speed or steering curves.
Does this slow down my iRacing?
The overlays are deliberately lightweight and can be hidden individually or all at once with a keypress.
What happens if I'm offline?
PaceGuru keeps running for 7 days without an internet connection after its last successful check.
Does it work with multiple monitors?
Yes. The Layout Editor shows your actually connected screens, and you place every overlay exactly where you want it.
